lat/long question
Question:
Howdy folks, Im hoping one of you good samaritans out there will own a GPS and wouldn’t mind firing it up and seeing if you might be able to figure out my latitude and longitude. I need this information to plot my location on an interactive map someone turned me on to. I am located in Pasadena, MD; a few miles south of Baltimore. I don’t know how specific you can be with those things but the greater the accuracy the better for my situation. Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help me out! -Keith B. PS: recommend a good GPS in the affordable range? Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

They tell you the reading of where it is, not the reading of some other place. Your best (cheapest) bet would be to check out a topo map and take the readings off of it. Or buy a Garmin 12 and take a reading. samg Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

There are web sites that list various web sites that list coordinates for various cities and locations. I would do a search to find one. You may be able to find a link to a web page that has coordinates from the following site: http://joe.mehaffey.com/ >-Keith B. >PS: recommend a good GPS in the affordable range?
I would check the site listed above for more info on the right GPS for you. Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/

Intersection of Rt 2 and E.Hamburg Rd is N39* 6.410′ by W76* 34.324′ in Pasadena,Md. I use an Eagle Explorer , about $150 , and am very happy with it. I you need coordinates for another intersection, let me know and I’ll see what I can do. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Howdy folks, > Im hoping one of you good samaritans out there will own a GPS and >wouldn’t mind firing it up and seeing if you might be able to figure out >my latitude and longitude. Well, according to the built-in "city database" on my Garmin GPS II Plus, Pasadena, MD is located at 39deg 6min 29.7sec North latitude, 76deg 32min 56.6sec West longitude. Now I have no clue as to exactly what part of Pasadena that represents, but the theoretical accuracy of that lat/long is plus or minus approximately TEN FEET. Drop the "seconds" portions, and the theoretical accuracy is plus or minus approximately one nautical mile. So, if one-mile accuracy will do, presume that the lat/long 39:06 N / 76:33 W represents "center of town" and proceed from there. If you want greater accuracy you’ll have to acquire or borrow a GPS and "take a reading". > -Keith B. > PS: recommend a good GPS in the affordable range?
What is *your* definition of "affordable range"? -jc- Visit the rec.hunting and rec.hunting.dogs FAQ Home Page at: http://sportsmansweb.com/hunting/
