Eddy Bauer – Anti
Question:
All, This subject came about probably a year ago. I found this in my files: One more time on Eddie Bauer – - Quite awhile ago I became aware that Eddie Bauer stores gave into the anti-trapping folks and wouldn’t use tarpped fur on their garments. They then went one step farther and quit using any kind of fur trapped or raised. To check it out I went in to the Eddie Bauer store on the mall in Evansville ,Indiana to see if they had any fur lined or trimmed garments . They didn’t.But what I did see was interesting. I picked up a book that they were selling on how Eddie Bauer began his store. It was pretty interesting. Eddie was quite an outdoorsman and HUNTER. In the book was a picture of Eddie standing out front of his one of and hanging up and laying on the side walk was 4 nice bucks. It didn’t say whether Eddie had killed them or not, But on the next page it showed the same pictures with the deer airbrushed out. The caption said something about " the deer being airbrushed out because of the antihunting mood of the 1970’s". It seems that the Eddie Bauer people are not only going anti-hunting but also changing the history of the the store’s beginning in order to sell more & to the convince the public that they have always were an "outdoors" store. Except for the "fur investigation" I won’t set foot in the store. Besides I think a LOT of their stuff is now foreign made junk. Woody Williams If you’re too busy to hunt, you’re too busy

: Woody, : Good to see someone agrees with me on this subject. I have refused too : be associated with the name Eddie Bauer since I learned of the no fur use : a number of years ago. I even convinced my father-in-law to sell his Eddy : Bauer edition of the Ford Explorer. If we all did this maybe they would : rethink their anti-hunting support. : Mark Beaven I don’t think selling the EB edition of the Explorer would have any effect, since Ford’s already got the money, and EB got there percentage for use of the name. What you need to do is write to Ford, and tell them that you’re buying a Blazer, due to Fords association with EB, who is anti hunting. BTW, I don’t think EB is so much "anti" hunting as they are trying to stay PC and neutral to attact the widest customer base. IMHO anti hunting is when they send donations to Cleveland Amory’s outfit. samg Hewlett Packard/Colorado Springs

Your right, Eddie Bauer used to have some nice technical clothes, etc. Since Spiegel bought them, the quality has gone down hill…just a name now being milked for high profit. spiegel was never known for quality I think LL. Bean and Cabela’s has some nice reasonably priced stuff with good quality. Not the overpriced North Face, etc. IMHO Rick Rick McCarthy – NRA Life Member since 1968

I used to buy Eddy Bauer expedition gear, starting with their chamois shirt. I still have one I bought in 1968. I shopped their factory seconds store in Puyallup, Washington when I lived in the area. Stuff went rapidly downhill after the chain was sold to somebody like Spiegal Stores. Now they are yuppie fashion boutiques. Sure sorry about that…jim dodd San Diego

Eddy Bauer and his wife were both hunters. Stories of their hunts appeared quite often in the Outdoor Life magazine. It is amazing to me that the current management or owners of the Eddie Bauer stores would try to hide this fact. All, This subject came about probably a year ago.
