Keyless entry add-on

Question:

I added one to my old ‘91.   I purchased a kit from the parts department.  The instructions were very complete and "matched" to the Explorer (color coding, location, etc). – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Has anyone tried to add a keyless entry kit to an older Explorer? > Is this a good thing to do ??

The real vintage year… 1991 !

If it is equipped with electric door locks then it’s not too bad of a job. Aftermarket keyless entry kits are available with or without added alarms. If you don’t have electric locks, then you can’t unlock the doors remotly.

Response:

I’ve got a 92 XLT.  Added the Ford ‘deluxe’ alarm/keyless entry to it. Still works fine today. JS

Response:

is very possible to add keyless entry, you could add remote start too. if you don’t currently have power door locks, you’ll need to purchase an actuator for each door that you want to be able to remotely unlock. can go either with genuine ford actuators or aftermarket $10 specials.
