Keyless Entry?
Question:
Hi!! I just got a 1993 Century with power door locks. In the manual, it says that it was an option for the Century’s to have remote keyless entry. While I do know that the car was not ordered with that optioned, I thought I read that all cars starting around this year came with the electronics for the remote keyless entry, but just didn’t come with the remotes for it unless ordered. Could I get a remote off of eBay that would work with my car? Thanks!!!! Dave
Response:
I don’t know about a Century but a Regal has a black box located under the rear "package shelf" next to the passenger side rear speaker. No box, no keyless entry. If the box is there you could reprogram a new or compatiable remote.

Dan, I’m 95% sure that they didn’t offer keyless entry that year. But if they did it would be in the left rear compartment ahead of the jack and rear window washer bottle. > Would My 92 EB Have Factory Keyless Entry? > if So Where Would I find the recevier? > or Would i have to simply get new transmitters, > or a whole new unit (transmitters, reciver, wireing)? > no key fob-(got it used) > — > Please Visiy My Web Site > http://home1.gte.net/1ateam/explorer/index.html > 92′ EB Explorer, JBL, 4×4 > EVERY Option Avaible! > *Even The Engine Block Heater* > Remove NOSPAM From Reply… > My Views Are Mine And Only Mine…

Keyless entry wasn’t available on the Explorer until the 1995 model year. You may be able to purchase a key fob style remote unlocking system though from your local Ford dealer but, you will not receive a keypad with this system Jeff Powers – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Would My 92 EB Have Factory Keyless Entry? >if So Where Would I find the recevier? >or Would i have to simply get new transmitters, >or a whole new unit (transmitters, reciver, wireing)? >no key fob-(got it used) >– >Please Visiy My Web Site >http://home1.gte.net/1ateam/explorer/index.html >92′ EB Explorer, JBL, 4×4 >EVERY Option Avaible! >*Even The Engine Block Heater* >Remove NOSPAM From Reply… >My Views Are Mine And Only Mine…

I think the remote keyless entry (without the door keypad) was available in 94. 94 also got the auto headlamps and rear view mirror. I bought a 93 and they weren’t available then. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > Keyless entry wasn’t available on the Explorer until the 1995 model year. > You may be able to purchase a key fob style remote unlocking system though > from your local Ford dealer but, you will not receive a keypad with this > system > Jeff Powers >Would My 92 EB Have Factory Keyless Entry? >if So Where Would I find the recevier? >or Would i have to simply get new transmitters, >or a whole new unit (transmitters, reciver, wireing)? >no key fob-(got it used) >– >Please Visiy My Web Site >http://home1.gte.net/1ateam/explorer/index.html >92′ EB Explorer, JBL, 4×4 >EVERY Option Avaible! >*Even The Engine Block Heater* >Remove NOSPAM From Reply… >My Views Are Mine And Only Mine…

Ford web site (Accessories) lists the Keyless Entry Part# 54220K51 available. My dealer says it’s $174, but they didn’t know what installation might cost. My local Alpine dealer has an Alpine unit for $149 installed. I’m thinking about one for our ‘98, but may just go with a low end alarm. I have an Alpine alarm in my ‘96 and the dealer seems to think I can use one remote for both cars. I just bought a 93 a couple months ago and I have the Keyless Entry, Auto Lamps and mirror. "Stay away from the star destroyer, but don’t look like your staying away from it." "AARRFF!" "I don’t know, fly casual" Jason Wiseman WWW home page: http://www.eecs.uic.edu/~jwisem/welcome.html

It’s possible they were retrofitted. Or maybe they were available later in the 93 model year (bought mine late 92). Or maybe you really have a 94?
When I ordered mine they were definitely not available. Neither were the running boards. I would have ordered both. Co-worker ordered a 94 and got all of the above. I was a little envious until I got the 97 XLT. Definitely worth the wait. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->I think the remote keyless entry (without the door keypad) was available in >94. >94 also got the auto headlamps and rear view mirror. — My wife’s ‘93 XLT (from the Great White North) also has the AutoLamp, AutoMirror and Keyless entry/Alarm on it. -with no door keypad. It also has an OEM block heater, DRL’s, oush button 4×4 w/AutoHubs, AutoTrans, AutoWipeYourAss, dual power seats, premium sound, privacy glass, tilt/cruise/AC/PW/PL/4 wheel ABS, and probably some other expensive to fix but yet to break crap on it. It also has the roof rack, aluminum wheels, and OEM running boards. All from Ford. Basically, it has *all* the options except leather, sun roof, or CD player…if these were even available on the XLT’s in ‘93. Its gets 18mpg in mixed driving and is rust free and problem free. It has 95,000km (about 59,000 miles) on it. It also may be for sale this fall. Mocha Frost, black trim and running boards with a cloth Saddle interior. All in very good shape. Any interests? I know what the on-line value guides figure the truck is worth, but what might I expect in the real world. It’ll probably have new tires and a frontend alignment done on it prior to the fall sale. It already has been imported into the US from Canada and is currently registered and emissions inspected in NYS, so there is none of the importing garbage to worry about. -Mike. – – – – – – – – – –

As early as the 1991 model year, keyless entry was available as a dealer installed option through a kit sold at the parts counter. It was complete with the expected Ford logo on the transmitter. I got it on my ‘91 this way. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> It’s possible they were retrofitted. Or maybe they were available later in the 93 > model year (bought mine late 92). I was referring to the factory option only.
