Adding Remote-Start to Factory Remote-Entry/Alarm?
Question:
you can add remote starts with keyless entry. they will replace your factory remotes but th new ones will unlock the doors. you cant add a starter to work with the factory remotes though. go with a dei product. 552t is the one to go with. 2 remotes and longer range han the 551 that circuit city sells. The dealer installed remote start on my 99 expedition. The unit is an aftermarket one w/alarm.I don’t think Ford has a alarm w/ remote start from the factory. BTW remote start is great! Joe

I had a remote-starter put in my 97 Sport, and the only problem I had with it was right after it was put in. The shop that put the starter in managed to somehow disable the 4WD system. I brought it back to the shop the same night, waited 2 hours while they figured out what was wrong, and haven’t had any problems since. I don’t know about your particular model year but my sister-in-law just bought a ‘99 XLT and added an upgraded alarm system w/ the remote start feature. Works great. Damalek ‘97 V8 AWD

I’ve got a ‘94 Limited Explorer, came with the factory alarm/remote entry (just the fobs, no keypad on the door). Is it possible to add a remote start system to this setup? My Ford guy said it would have to be an aftermarket add-on, and he personally wouldn’t do it because of all the electrical problems it can cause (to much load on the fuses, etc).
