Explorer 2000 XLT vs. XLS

Question:

any major difference between the 4 door XLS ford explorer vs the 4 door XLT? if so what thanks?

Response:

the XLS is esentially the "bAse" model IIRC, and the XLT has a lot more things standard, like Aluminum Wheels, Privacy Glass, SOHC motor and you can get an XLT in a V8 etc. One of my friends said to think of an XLS as an XL with power windows and locks. WEs

Response:

I own a 2K XLS and am extremely happy with it, the biggest difference that I have found honestly is about 4-5 thousand dollar differance.  The OHV V6 has plenty of power and will last longer than the v8 or the sohc v6.  My XLS has everything that I need including 4 wheel drive and plenty of ground clearance when I go off roading.  I wouldn’t get suckered into a XLT with all the gadgets,  there is a XLS Sport  version which has everything an XLT has.  I ordered my explorer directly from the factory in a setup exactly how I wanted it,  has the bigger tires, really nice looking aluminum rims,  personally I think the steel rims are ugly)   cd player amd privacy glass with power everything.  No running boards or anything that might get gunked up with mud with the exception of skid plates. Hope this helps. John.

Response:

I just bought a 2000 XLT. I’d agree that the XLT is the XLS with power, but it also has a VERY appealing inclusion – the nicer cloth bucket seats. My ‘93 caused me physical pain while in it, and the XLS has those same seats…

Response:

I thought the XLS was actually smaller than the XLT. * Sent from RemarQ http://www.remarq.com The Internet’s Discussion Network * The fastest and easiest way to search and participate in Usenet – Free!

Response:

I was with a friend when he was shopping and one thing I noticed is that the XLS has a cheap center console.   Also the bumper with the plastic inserts where the foglights are supposed to be are pretty ugly.

Response:

No difference in size.  XLS is just a trim level.  "Base model" if you will. XLT steps you up to the SOHC V6 (opt V8), standard high-series center console, premium sound system, overhead console, optional sunroof, nicer seats, etc.  Most of all either aren’t available or are options on the XLS. Basically depends on what you want. JH 95 EB – 115K miles John G. Holt Mechanical Engineering University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee College of Engineering and Applied Science www.uwm.edu/~holter88
