Temperature Sensor

Question:

Hello everyone, I have 1998 Ford Explorer 4L SOHC.  The temperature gauge would go to the max after a few minutes of driving.  I have located the temperature sensor and purchased a new one.  However, when trying to unscrew the old one, the whole sleeve turns and I can’t get the sensor itself out.  Has anyone else had this problem?  Is it a manufacturing defect?  If it isn’t, am I doing something wrong?  Any help would be greatly appreciated. With all the sensor warranties i have done,i have never come across this before.I would suggest contacting Standard Motor Products at www.smpcorp.com and asking them via their "write us" section.SMP are the worlds largest engine controls manufacturer.

Move to Arizona

Response:

The sensor is located behind the grille and if there is a high resistance because of a dirty connection to the cable it might cause such an error. Take a look there. =Vic= Bear Gap, PA
