Blank Radio Display 2000 Explorer – Recall?
Question:
Same thing happened with my ‘87 Bronco II and my wife’s ‘89 Taurus. So it took them ten years to do something about it, and it still ain’t right? From information collected and seen on these units, the model years 1998-2000 are the worst. It appears that in 2001, they made a change, however, the change is minor and so you may still eventually see this problem on the 2001 and later models. Might be a good idea to talk with the service manager at your Ford dealer. Even though my ‘99 was way out of warranty, they were able to charge Ford for 2/3 of the cost. Since the standard repair cost is about $300, this is a substantial reduction in cost. Worth a try! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text ->Not yet that I’ve seen. Not yet that I’ve seen. I’ve even complained to Ford once or twice a few years back when my 98’s Explorer Mach system went blank. Now on my 2000 Explorer at the 3 year mark (hmmm that’s when the 98’s went out at the 3 year mark) it to went blank on the display. Poor design and to close to the duct system even though during the summer when running A/C the single CD running can get really hot irregardless. Lots of heat buildup leads to eventual problems in any electronics not built to deal with it. Short of going aftermarket to a new design is the only sure way to end it. When I fixed my 98’s I figured that 3 years from that fix it would probably go out again…. G

The display on my radio died. It had been fading in and out for a while. I see where this has been a discussion topic for some time. I have gotten the instructions for fixing it, but does anyone know if there has been a recall on these radios since the problem seems to be fairly wide spread?
