Personally, I’d get a little tense over that diagnosis…. the only times I have ever had to replace crash sensors is (quite naturally) after a crash. The usual culprit is the clock spring on these old girls…. my guess may be wrong so I would opt for a second opinion – especially with the price you’ve been quoted. Bear in mind that the SRS system packs a mighty wallop if we relax our attention even briefly. Add that there is often a small piece of lore or knowledge or experience that a tech might overlook when describing these kinds of repairs. When repairing an SRS system, I always substitute test ‘dummies’ for the airbags to provve out the system….. just in case the replacement piece(s) ’shouldn’t’ have made it through quality control. The "BANG" of a seatbelt pretensioner I can take (maybe with only a slight change to my laundry shcedule) since my facce (and wallet) aren’t in their trajectory while making connections. Jim Warman
