Recalls
Question:
Anyone hear about this? Will we be notified or do we need to ask our local Ford dealer about it? Thanks, — *** Ford recalls 637,000 SUVs Ford Motor Co. said it was recalling 637,000 sport utility vehicles, including 27,000 1996 and 1997 Explorers and Mountaineers whose throttles can ice over in cold weather and leave the engine racing. The majority of the recalls, 610,000 models, were 1993 and 1994 Explorers in which the electrical circuit that powers a mirror adjuster could short-circuit, creating the potential for overheating in the driver-side door. It also recalled 1,697 1998 F700 and F800 trucks and B800 school bus chassis cowls. A transmission problem could prevent the driver from determining the gear position.

I heard that the 1996 and 1997 recall was for defective PCV valves which did not meet emmision standards. It didn’t mention anything about icing. Where did you hear that? Bill
Response:
According to the NTSB web site the recall only covers Fords in those states where the temp. regularly falls to -20 F (Alaska, North and South Dakota, Upper Peninsula of Michigan, etc.). Look at http://www.ntsb.gov for a list of recalls. Jeff Price >Anyone hear about this? Will we be notified or do we

I heard about the throtal problem today at lunch… It was on the news up here in Canada. Of course, the local Ford dealership hadn’t heard anything about it. Said, must be only US models. (Not what they said on the news however). MJM

I looked here, but couldn’t find the list of recalls. Can you be more specific, please? — Greg

I was wondering if anyone had a good resource for obtaining information regarding published and non-published recalls on the Explorer? We have a ‘96 with a slipping transmission and the repair man said that it was due to a factory defect in the soleniod bracket that was prevalent in that year model. Obviously, I am hoping for a non announced recall to help fix the problem. Thanks in advance, George McKey
